FAQs

A Few Things You Should Know

We get a lot of questions about overland vehicle rentals, and here are a few that we see just about every time. We hope this answers many of your questions, but if you have some more, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Pick-up Process

What is involved in checking the vehicle out?

Our pick-up process is simple and straight forward. Your vehicle will be awaiting your arrival, parked inside a fenced area beside our building and unlocked. You will be provided a combination to the gate lock. Once you find your vehicle, you may begin the Pick-up procedure checklist, you will have already received and signed this checklist during the reservation process (download the PDF below.) At this time you should take a moment to scan the QR codes on each piece of equipment. These QR codes will open up a video showing how to set up and use each piece of equipment. It is important to get to know your vehicle and equipment while in cell range to get all questions answered before you head into the wild! Once you have completed your check-in process, you will receive the lockbox number and combination for your keys, and you are off!

Drop-Off Process

How Do You Return the Vehicle?

Please wash and vacuum the vehicle before returning it to avoid a cleaning fee (a pre-pay cleaning option is available when you make your reservation.) We do not expect the vehicles to be detailed, just clean and tidy  There are two self-serve car washes near-by (Wash It Express, and Moab City Car Wash) DO NOT USE DRIVE-THROUGH CAR WASHES, THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT. Please top off the fuel tank to the level it was at when you picked it up. If you do not, you will be charged $1/gallon over market price. (A pre-pay fuel option is available when you make your reservation.) Return vehicle to the gated section of our facility, and try to put it in the same spot you found it (use gate code from when you checked out.) Now it is time to complete your Drop-Off Checklist which you received and signed during the reservation process (download PDF below.) Leave your vehicle unlocked. Return keys to the numbered lockbox you got them from. Your vehicle drop off is complete.

Peace of Mind

Do I Need Insurance?

You must provide a current insurance binder or declarations page showing the renter has a full coverage policy with limitations exceeding our vehicle’s replacement cost of $100,000+ prior to your pickup date. If you are unsure if your policy meets these limitations, please contact us or your insurance agent. In the event of an accident or damage to our vehicles or equipment your personal automobile insurance policy is the primary insurance that will be used. You will be required to purchase rental insurance through our partners at Wheelbase during the reservation process. This insurance protection bundle is a secondary policy designed only to apply coverage in the event your personal auto insurance policy denies coverage.

Have Fun, Be Safe

Can we go off-road?

We want you to get out and explore, find new things and challenge yourself.  Moab Utah has some incredible camping and scenery giving you plenty of room to stretch your legs and overland. (See our list of recommended trails below.) Our vehicles are designed to hit the dirt and trails, but use good judgement and keep the vehicles off roads and trails that could cause damage. Rock crawling, mud parks/mud play, excessive deep water crossings or driving on any prohibited trails will result in a $1,000 fine. This fine is NOT part of your security deposit. Any of the above listed activities could also result in an automatic cancellation of your rental and loss of security deposit. Our vehicles are equipped with GPS tracking technology for your safety and our peace of mind.

Utah ranks 3rd in public land so there are plenty of places to call home for a night! One of the great things about our roof-top tents is you can camp wherever you park, regardless of whether the ground is wet, cold, rocky, etc. However, we do recommend camping in designated campsites, be they privately run or within a State or National Park or BLM land. For some ideas of great places to off-raod and camp, check out our Recommended Trails Guide here.

If you are going to be venturing into hard to reach places, we highly recommend renting one of our Zoleo global satellite communicators.
